June 12 Community Weed Day - Evergreen Lake

8:00 to 11:00 am
Grab your garden gloves, sharpen your diggers, and join us for the 13th Annual Community Weed Day at Evergreen Lake. We’ll start with refreshments at 8:00, be working by 8:30 and plan to finish weeding the entire perimeter of the Lake by 11:00. The public is invited to stop by and see our display of local noxious weeds or bring plants in for identification.

July 10 3rd Annual Summit County Pulling for Colorado
 

The Summit County Community and Senior Center is the location for the 8:00AM kickoff with a light breakfast, a short instructional session with live weeds capped with a power point strip of local weed favorites.

 

40 sites throughout the county are surveyed with 15 locations designated for pulling with sign- ups for each.

 

Out the door by 8:45 and back by noon for weed wrap up, lunch and favors.

 

100 volunteers in 2008, 120 in 2009. Lets keep it rolling for 2010!

10am - 2pm

Volunteers will reach out to the public at the Evergreen Safeway, providing weed identification and control information. There will be a display of area weeds and the public is invited to bring plants from their yards for identification.

July 31 Estes Park Weed Roundup for Colorado
 

9:30 am – 1 pm, above the Town Recycle Center in Estes Park (across from Smokin Dave’s BBQ)

 

Come get your unknown weedy plants identified, learn the best way to get rid of weeds in your yard, and the first 80 people to bring in at least one bag of pulled weeds gets a free ‘Pulling for Colorado’ t-shirt (kid sizes too!). Come in and learn how to identify some of the most common weeds in the area, then win prizes for correctly identifying them in the Weed ID game! Prizes will also be awarded to those that bring in the most bags of weeds and the biggest weed specimens. Each attendee will also receive one free large paper lawn bag for weed collection. Free educational materials including weed flash cards and 2011 weed calendars will also be handed out about troublesome weeds in the area, and local restaurants will be supplying free food and drinks! Please bring in your pulled weeds in paper lawn bags if possible, but plastic bags will be accepted.

June 25 HS Service Group Weed Pull
  A Denver HS group is pulling weeds in Summit County to fulfill the service hours requirement for their school.

Target species will primarily be musk thistle in the Dickey Landing area of the Dillon Ranger District, White River National Forest. The program will include an educational presentation presented by District Range staff the evening of June 24.

  Lakewood will be pulling knapweed and other noxious weeds just outside the Bear Creek Lake Park Visitor Center.  Education displays will be up at the Visitor Center along with the Park Naturalist to give interpretive messages about the weeds.
